Participant Information

Your Support. Your Choices. Your Information.

We believe you should understand the supports you receive, how decisions are made and what to expect when working with Disability and Nursing Solutions (DANS).

This guide explains how to get started, how we work with you, and where to find help whenever you need it.

Welcome to DANS

DANS is a registered NDIS provider offering Positive Behaviour Support services. We work with participants, families, carers and support networks to understand each person’s needs, goals and circumstances.

We aim to provide respectful, person-centred support that promotes quality of life, independence, meaningful participation and choice.

You are at the centre of your support. We will explain information in a way you can understand, listen to your preferences and support your involvement in decisions about your services.

How to Get Started With DANS

Every person’s situation is different. These are the usual steps when you begin working with us.

1

Make an enquiry or referral

You, your representative or someone supporting you can contact DANS or complete our online referral. We will review the information provided and discuss whether we can meet your support needs.

2

Discuss your needs and goals

We will ask about your goals, communication preferences, support arrangements and what matters most to you. You can involve a family member, nominee, advocate or another support person if you wish.

3

Understand and agree to the service

Before services begin, we will explain the proposed supports, charges, responsibilities, cancellation arrangements and other relevant service terms. These details will be recorded in a service agreement where appropriate.

4

Assessment and support planning

Where Positive Behaviour Support is appropriate, your practitioner will work to understand your circumstances and the reasons behind behaviours of concern. This may involve conversations, observations and gathering relevant information with the necessary consent or other lawful authority.

5

Review and ongoing communication

Your practitioner will discuss progress, explain recommendations and review supports when needed. You can ask questions, share feedback or request a discussion about your support at any stage.

What You Can Expect From Us

Respectful communication

We will listen to you, respect your communication preferences and provide information in an accessible format wherever reasonably possible.

Choice and involvement

You will be supported to understand your options and participate in decisions about your support.

Privacy and confidentiality

We will explain why we collect personal information, how we use and protect it, and when it may need to be shared.

Safe, professional services

We aim to deliver services safely and competently, act on concerns and respond appropriately when something goes wrong.

Clear service arrangements

We will explain the supports being arranged, applicable service fees and the relevant terms before you agree to proceed.

Feedback without fear

You can raise a concern or complaint without being threatened, punished or treated unfairly for speaking up.

Your Information and Consent

We may need to collect relevant information to understand your needs, arrange services, complete assessments and provide appropriate support.

We will explain the purpose of collecting and sharing information, who may receive it and the circumstances in which information may be shared where required or authorised by law.

You can ask how your information is stored, request access to or correction of your personal information, and ask to withdraw or change consent you have previously given, subject to applicable legal requirements.

Read our Privacy Policy for further information.

Involving People You Trust

You may want a family member, carer, support coordinator, advocate or other trusted person involved in your discussions with DANS.

We will respect your wishes and work within applicable consent, decision-making and representation arrangements.

Understanding Your Service Agreement

Your service agreement helps explain the supports you are arranging and what DANS and you can expect from each other.

Before agreeing, you can ask us to explain the proposed services, prices, payment arrangements, cancellation terms, responsibilities, reviews and how to end services.

You can take time to consider the agreement and seek advice or support before making a decision.

Questions, Concerns or Complaints?

You can speak to DANS if you have a question, want to change an arrangement or are unhappy with any aspect of your support.

You can also contact the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission directly about concerns regarding the quality or safety of NDIS services. You do not need to complain to DANS first.

Independent information is also available from the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission .
