Other NDIS Supports to Help You Live Your Way
Everyone’s needs, routines and goals are different. Alongside Positive Behaviour Support, Disability and Nursing Solutions (DANS) can help you explore other NDIS support options, from everyday activities and community participation to nursing and independent living.
Support that starts with the person, not the service
Having an NDIS plan does not mean everyone needs the same services. One person may need assistance getting ready each morning, while another wants to build confidence travelling independently or joining community activities.
The starting point should be what matters to you: your preferences, daily life, existing supports and the outcomes you want to achieve.
Below are the additional support areas you can enquire about through DANS. We will discuss what may be appropriate and whether DANS can provide the requested support.
Supported Living & Personal Care
Assistance with daily routines, personal care and supported living arrangements, guided by each participant’s needs, preferences and circumstances.
Supported Independent Living (SIL)
Support with everyday tasks and routines for people who need assistance living in a shared or individual home setting. The focus is on daily living support, developing skills and maintaining personal choice.
Personal Activities
Individual assistance with personal tasks that form part of everyday life, delivered in a way that respects privacy, dignity and the participant’s preferred routine.
High Intensity Daily Personal Activities
Some participants require more complex daily personal support associated with significant health or disability-related needs. These supports require appropriate assessment, staff competencies, training and clinical oversight where relevant.
Community Participation & Life Skills
Opportunities to build confidence, practise useful skills and take part in meaningful activities at home and in the community.
Community Participation
Support to access community activities and participate in social, recreational or other meaningful opportunities that reflect individual interests and goals.
Development of Life Skills
Practical assistance to learn, strengthen or maintain skills used in everyday life. Activities should be matched to the person’s abilities, learning preferences and priorities.
Nursing & Household Support
Practical support for health-related needs and managing the everyday tasks involved in maintaining a comfortable home environment.
Community Nursing
Nursing-related supports for eligible participants with disability-related health needs. The type and complexity of nursing care must be assessed individually and provided by appropriately qualified personnel.
Household Tasks
Assistance with household activities where disability-related needs make it difficult to complete tasks independently. Support should reflect personal circumstances and an individual’s NDIS goals.
Home Modifications
Home modifications may help improve accessibility, safety and independence. These supports generally require appropriate assessment and may involve specialist recommendations, quotes and NDIS approval processes.
Employment, Transitions & Access
Assistance with participating in everyday life, working towards employment-related goals and navigating important life changes.
Employment Support
Disability-related assistance to develop practical skills and work towards employment goals. The precise supports available depend on individual eligibility and the boundary between NDIS and mainstream employment services.
Life Stage Transitions
Support to prepare for and adapt to important changes in life, including changes to living arrangements, routines and independence goals.
Travel & Transport Assistance
Disability-related assistance with travelling to activities and appointments or developing confidence to navigate transport options. Funding and service availability vary according to individual circumstances.

Questions about other NDIS supports
Can I receive more than one type of NDIS support?
Potentially, yes. An NDIS participant may use different supports depending on their individual plan, funding arrangements, goals and eligibility. Having multiple support needs does not automatically mean every requested service will be funded.
Does DANS provide every support listed here?
These are support areas about which you can enquire. Current delivery availability may differ by service type, location, staffing, professional requirements and DANS registration scope. We will confirm whether DANS can provide the requested service before discussing arrangements.
Do I need to be receiving PBS services to enquire?
No. You can enquire about other supports without first accessing Positive Behaviour Support. We will consider the particular service request and advise on next steps.
How do I know whether my NDIS plan covers a support?
The answer depends on the type of support, how your plan is structured and whether the support meets applicable NDIS funding rules. Your support coordinator, plan manager or the NDIA may be able to clarify funding. DANS can discuss the requested service, but does not determine NDIS funding eligibility.
Can a support coordinator send a referral?
Yes. Support coordinators can submit an enquiry or referral on behalf of a participant with appropriate authority and consent. Please include the support requested, relevant circumstances and preferred contact details.
Are home modifications the same as Supported Independent Living?
No. Home modifications generally relate to changes to the physical home environment, while Supported Independent Living concerns assistance with daily living tasks and routines. They are different types of NDIS support with different funding and assessment requirements.
Not sure which support is right for your situation?
Tell us about the assistance you are looking for. Our team can discuss your enquiry, clarify the requested support and confirm the available next steps.
